SciConnect ("we", "our", or "the app") is an educational platform developed by Prof. Teck Ming Tan and his research team in Finland. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the app experience:

• Email address - Used for account authentication via a one-time passcode (magic link). We do not use passwords.
• Display name - An optional name you may set in your profile.
• Quiz responses - Your answers to science questions, used to track your progress and generate your personal dimension scores.
• Evidence reading activity - Which evidence articles you have read, to help track your learning journey.
• Science Circle submissions - Votes and suggestions you submit to the community feature.
• Session data - Basic session information (start time, app version) to help us understand how the app is used.

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

• Authenticate your identity and secure your account
• Save your quiz progress and learning history
• Calculate and display your dimension scores (radar chart)
• Track level completion and issue certificates
• Enable community features (Science Circle)
• Improve the app experience through aggregated, anonymized usage patterns

3. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase, a cloud database platform with enterprise-grade security. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. Row-level security ensures you can only access your own data.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Supabase - Database and authentication provider (supabase.com/privacy)
• Expo - App development and notification infrastructure (expo.dev/privacy)

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics trackers, or sell your data to third parties.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Your data may only be disclosed if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your data - Your progress and scores are visible in the app at any time.
• Delete your account and all associated data - Contact us at the email below.
• Export your data - Request a copy of your data by contacting us.

7. Children's Privacy

SciConnect includes an age verification gate. The app is designed for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will promptly delete it.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, all personal data will be removed within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained for research and improvement purposes.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
